Net Zero Carbon Footprint

There's no doubt that COP 26 raised everyone's awareness about the impact that business has on climate change. Here at SSS Learning we have been working hard in 2021 to achieve a net zero carbon footprint by recognising the positive actions that we are already taking and identifying any further areas where we can make positive changes. Our latest work towards achieving net zero includes:

• having all our head office electricity generated via solar panels;
• all business travel being made using electric vehicles;
• ensuring that the electricity used to power our servers is 100% offset. Our server provider CWCS have a REGO (Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin) backed electricity supply, meaning that its power consumption is now 100% offset by renewable energy;
• offering staff the option of homeworking to reduce the amount of space needed at head office;
• Installing green screen studio filming equipment locally to enable video production without the need to travel.

We have a clear ongoing strategy to limit our emissions wherever possible and are fully offsetting our carbon footprint that remains by supporting projects across the world. We have already supported the projects and our offset contributions currently support the following projects:

Solar Power Generation - a 5 MW grid connected solar photovoltaic power project in Nokh Village, Pokhran in the State of Rajasthan in Western India. This project activity is expected to supply 8,322 MWh of net electricity annually to the national grid of India.

We will also support these projects in future:

• Burgos Wind Project - A 50 turbine wind farm project which supplies energy to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
• Wind Farm Project - A 200MW wind farm project which supplies renewable electricity to the North China Power Grid, reducing the need for power generated by the operation of grid-connected power plants.
• Improved Cook Stove Project - run by UK charity RIPPLE Africa which benefits approximately 200,000 people in Malawi.
• Municipal Solid Waste and Food Waste Composting project - a project based in India which produces organic manure from municipal solid waste and food waste through composting.
• Livestock Waste Management Program - a livestock waste management program in Thailand which captures emissions from piggeries manure and uses them for power generation.
• Gangwon Wind Park Project - which focusses on preserving natural resources, promoting renewable energy, reducing dependency on non-renewable resources, and helping spread green technology worldwide.

I am delighted to say we officially achieved net zero status in October this year. But the work continues and you can follow our progress via our social media feeds.
